Birdz is a family-oriented animated television series that was produced in Canada from 1998 to 1999. The show's tagline, A Sitcom in the Trees, refers cleverly to the fact that its main characters are all birds. Directed by Larry Jacobs and written by Kim Thompson and Bruce Clark, Birdz features the talented voice work of Karen Bernstein (Olivia Owl), Richard Binsley (Mr. Nuthatch), Sally Cahill (Betty Storkowitz), and David Huband (Morty Storkowitz), among others. (Mr. Jacobs is also known for directing such animated series as Beetlejuice, The Care Bears Family, Johnny Test and, most recently, Caillou.) The show's major characters include storks, owls, finches, woodpeckers, turkeys, and pigeons, all of whom have an uncanny need for constant pop culture reference. For example, the tween owl, Eddie Storkowitz, dreams of becoming the next Steven Spielbird! (One might think of Birdz as the animated Canadian version of Gilmore Girls, given the abundance of pop culture citations.) Audiences and critics alike have called this show "infectiously funny," and you won't disagree!MORE
