Bill Moyers on Faith and Reason is a seven-part half hour PBS television program that documents conversations surrounding the religious attitudes and beliefs of highly respected authors. The show's host, Bill Moyers, is a journalist and former White House Press Secretary who served under the President Lyndon B. Johnson Administration. Moyers created Faith and Reason in response to the rapid growth of fundamentalism, which he feels is at war with freedom and creativity of the mind. He felt that writers were especially affected by the weight of fundamentalism, and chose to interview provocative writers to produce a fresh take on faith and reason in today's society. Noted interviewees include Jeanette Winterson, Salman Rushdie, Mary Gordon, Richard Rodriguez, Sir John Houghton, Will Power and Margaret Atwood. Topics explored include the effect of fundamentalist Muslims, Orthodox Jews and fundamentalist Christians on politics and mainstream media. Writers offer their own opinions on how these dominating worldviews have further effected creative freedom and human rights.MORE
