Big Love

Big Love is an HBO TV drama about a Mormon family that engages in polygamy; with father Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton), his three wives Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Nicki (Chloe Sevigny), and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin), his oldest daughter Sarah (Amanda Seyfried), and Bill and Barb's son Ben (Douglas Smith). Hernrickson lives in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, Utah, with his family in 3 neighboring houses. The family struggles to live their polygamous lifestyle in the suburbs without the outside world finding out. The three wives feud, with Barb being the anchor of the family, but having mixed feelings about polygamy, Nicki struggling with modern life, and Margene trying to find her place. Bill also had a fourth wife, Ana, who divorced the family after conceiving a child with Bill. The drama picks up when Barb is nominated for "Mother of the Year", and the family is outed as polygamists. Bill's brother Joey, a former NFL player, has to deal with his volatile wife Wanda who is quick to poison anyone who crosses the family. Joey also wishes to enter into polygamy, with his second wife-to-be Kathy. Daughter Sarah struggles with her polygamous family's beliefs, confides in her friend Heather, and marries Scott Quittman without her parents' approval. Roman Grant is the self-proclaimed "Prophet" and leader of the Juniper Creek compound, who feuds with rival compound leader Hollis Singer Green. The show has been very popular and has been renewed for a fifth season by HBO, and has gained favorable reviews from some, but has also stirred up controversy from Church groups who disagree with the portrayal of the Mormon lifestyle.
