Mongolian Chop Squad is a Japanese anime series based on the popular manga series of the same name about a group of teenagers who form a band called BECK, a rock and roll outfit that brings together an unlikely team of young musicians whose lives get turned upside-down by their new friendships and early success. Ryusuke is a highly-skilled guitarist but he lacks ambition in his studies at school. Since there aren't many things he enjoys doing besides playing music, he decides to put together a band. First, he finds Taira, a bassist who comes off as pretty apathetic but is actually extremely mature for his age. Chiba joins up next, as the band's high-energy lead singer with a bad boy attitude. Saku rounds out the foursome, providing the backbone with his killer drum skills. Initially Ryusuke thinks the four of them are enough for the band, but the series follows the band's surprise fifth member, Koyuki, an ordinary teenager who agrees to play rhythm guitar and sing the slower songs. None of them could predict just how talented Koyuki would become, and how important he'd wind up being to the band's success. Mongolian Chop Squad is a fun series that's full of great original music inspired by bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and Rage Against the Machine.MORE
