Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a dramatic television series that originally aired on CBS starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. Differing significantly from the Disney's famous version of the fairy tale, CBS' Beauty and the Beast does not feature talking lamps and a wilting rose; there is no Mrs. Potts, Gaston, or Cogsworth this time around. The dark 1987 series focuses on Charlotte (Linda Hamilton), an investigator for Manhattan's District Attorney who stumbles upon a dark underworld where a group of outcasts live under the guidance of Vincent (Ron Perlman), a lion-like humanoid. The two forge a deep bond and Vincent finds that he is tied to Charlotte's emotions; he can sense what she is feeling at all times. Although they care for each other very deeply, Vincent cannot live above ground, and the two cannot be more than friends. Working together, Charlotte and Vincent attempt to clean up the streets of New York by investigating drug lords, murders, crimes, and everything in between. Although each episode features a new investigation for Charlotte and Vincent to delve into, the show mostly deals with the relationships between Charlotte's New York and Vincent's dark underworld. Developed by Rick Baker, Vincent's makeup was advanced for the television world of 1987. Although Beauty and the Beast was canceled after three seasons, it is still seen as an inspirational twist on an old tale. MORE
