Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes is a British Sci-Fi series that aired three series on the BBC from February, 2008 to May, 2010. The series skillfully combines the science fiction and police procedural genres, producing one audience pleasing TV show. The show also serves as a sequel to the previously aired show Life On Mars. Starring Keely Hawes, it follows present day London Metropolitan Police Officer Alex Drake (Hawes) who is shot and inexplicably wakes up in 1981. Drake is initially seen reviewing case files relevant to events occurring in Life On Mars and is shocked to wake up in 1981 surrounded by the same police officers and detectives she had just read about in the files. All three series of the show follow Drake as she works to solve crime in the 80s and decipher mysteries about her family's past against the political upheaval in Britain at the time. The surprise ending of the show takes a turn towards the supernatural that ties things up nicely for all major and minor characters of the show. MORE
