Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a horror anthology show that aired for seven seasons from 1990 to 2000 and aired on Nickelodeon. The show would open with the "Midnight Society", a group of teenagers who would gather in the middle of the woods around a camp-fire and tell each other scary stories. Each story would begin with a member giving an introduction to the story ending with "submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society..." and the title of the story with the member throwing midnight dust into the fire and making it emit white smoke. Many of the stories were retellings of long standing fairy tales or urban legends. There were often characters in the stories that crossed over into other stories like Sardo the magic shop owner and Dr. Vink the mad scientist. The show was aimed at young adults and aired famously on the SNICK lineup on Nickelodeon, a block of shows aired on Saturday nights after Nickelodeon programming had normally ended. MORE
