The Alfred Hitchcock Hour

The Alfred Hitchcock Hour is the anthology TV series hosted by Alfred Hitchcock, the director of such classics as The Birds and Psycho. Beginning as a half hour series Alfred Hitchcock Presents, it was extended to a full hour and renamed The Alfred Hitchcock Hour in 1962. The show opens with an introduction from the suspense master, the goes into a story. The stories featured murders and crime, but was not bloody and gory, relying on imagination to create gripping suspense and action. Hitchcock was one of the first directors to delve into the new medium of television, predicting how popular television would become. Hitchcock only directed a few of the episodes himself, with two nominated for Emmy awards. The show has lived on in syndication as well as a 1985 made-for-TV movie based on the series.
