30 For 30 is a sports documentary series from ESPN Films that showcases thirty films by thirty prominent filmmakers to honor ESPN's 30th anniversary. Founded by Bill Rasmussen and his son Scott Rasmussen, ESPN launched on September 7, 1979 under the direction of Chet Simmons, the network's President and CEO. ESPN, known as the world wide leader in sports, is dedicated to broadcasting and producing sports-related programming 24 hours a day. Covering a vast majority of sports through all of their affiliates has given them the opportunity to share classic moments in sports and entertainment lore that most will never forget. Now with ESPN Film's 30 for 30 series, some of today's exemplary story tellers bring their talents and unique perspective to document the issues, trends, athletes, teams, rivalries, games, and events that transcended the playing field and into American culture to become a memorable and historic event no one can forget. 30 For 30 began with an idea from ESPN.com writer Bill Simmons, in which he wanted thirty filmmakers to retell the stories from the past three decades in which each director had a personal interest in and felt that the event was never fully explored.
