07 Ghost is the anime series based on the fantasy manga written and illustrated by Yuki Amemiya and Yukino Ichihara, which follows the story of an orphaned slave named Teito Klein. Teito attends Barsburg Empire's military academy, but is teased constantly for being an orphan and a slave. Against the odds, he becomes a top military academy student, and his ability to use Zaiphon, the power to convert life energy into other forms of power, is prized. His mastery of the magical art and his best friend Mikage are his solace in his days at the academy. When an unexpected turn of events leads Teito to finding out a horrifying secret about the ruling Empire, it leaves him a convict on the run from the Barsburg Empire forces. He is protected by the church who gives him sanctuary, and he starts to unravel mysteries about the empire, the church, and himself.
