WETA is a public broadcasting television station developed for the Washington, D.C. area that is today the third largest producing station in public television. Originally launched in the fall of 1961, WETA, also known as the Washington Educational Television Association, has been known for its cultural documentaries, such as the collection of Ken Burns' documentaries and A Capital Fourth, while also nationally broadcasting some of its greatest productions, PBS Newshour, Washington Week, and the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. The goal of WETA is to constantly be on ahead of viewers in order to inform and educate them on the news around the nation.
