The United States Air Force (USAF) was formed as a separate branch of military from the United States Army in 1947 and is now the lead aerial warfare service branch of the United States armed forces. The United States Air Force operates the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve services. The USAF's core functions that was included in it's 2010 Posture Statement include Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recover, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility and Agile Combat Support.
