Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) is an American improvisational comedy and sketch group. The group's original members consisted of Matt Besser, Ali Farahnakian and Drew Franklin. They emerged from Chicago's ImprovOlympic in 1990 and began performing at Kill the Poet in Chicago. Its most notable members include Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh. The group relocated to New York City in 1996 performing shows and offering improv training. The company became an instant hit and opened their own theater in the winter of 1999. Then in June of 2005, the troupe opened a new theater out west in Hollywood, California. They also have a featured performance in the Comedy Tent at the annual music festival Bonnaroo. From 1998-2000, the group had a television series that was dedicated to their sketch comedy and was aired on Comedy Central. Then in 2008 they released a DVD of their live performance of their hit show in LA, ASSSSCAT that had all four original cast members and guest monologues from Will Arnet, Ed Helms, Kate Walsh and more.
