Troma Entertainment is an independent film distribution company founded in 1974 by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz. Films distributed by Troma Entertainment are typically of the campy variety. Many of their films are homages to or stylized versions of 1950s B-movies. The first of Troma Entertainment's cult hits was The Toxic Avenger in 1985. This would also prove to be Troma Entertainment's signature series, as it inspired a popular cartoon series and several sequels. Their other significant releases include Class of Nuke 'Em High, Tromeo and Juliet, Terror Firmer, and third-party releases like Cannibal! The Musical by Trey Parker.
