The Wilderness Downtown is a shockingly interactive internet music video experience for the song 'We used to Wait' from the new album 'The Suburbs' by the band 'Arcade Fire.' It allows the viewer to program in the address of their childhood home and watch as the music video interacts around it, creating a deeply personalized, and personal experience. Choreographed internet windows open and close, real-time compositing and procedural drawings occur as well as interactive flocking and custom rendered maps. The viewer watches as trees grow up and out from around their childhood home and neighborhood and an animated man runs, attempting to flee his past...It was built entirely with new open web technologies such as HTML 5 video and canvas.
