Tate is an institution with a network of four art museums that houses the United Kingdom’s national collection of British Art and International Modern and Contemporary Art. The gallery was founded in 1897 and was originally known as the National Gallery of British Art. The institution receives annual funding from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport. Tate launched its online presence in 1998, providing information about all four of their physical galleries. In addition to their main informational site, Tate offers a platform for Internet art exhibits known as ‘Net Art’. This was organized as a part of their initiative for covering new media art. MORE
