Starz is an American television station available in paid subscription packages that airs movies in their first run on television. The station was founded in 1994 by Liberty Media and aired Scent of a Woman as its first film. Starz was originally referred to as Encore 8, a reference to the other stations operating under the same umbrella. Starz has gone on to form its own umbrella of stations including Black Starz, Starz Family, Starz Cinema, and Starz Comedy.
