The 'Seven Network, also known as 'Channel Seven' or just 'Seven,' is a television network from Australia. It is owned by the Seven Media Group. It originated on December 2nd, 1956 as one of the first stations broadcast from the VHF7 frequency in Melbourne and Sydney. Since then it has grown into the second largest network in Australia and the highest rated one. Seven is headquartered in a converted warehouse at the Jones Bay Wharf in Pyrmont, Sydney but its national news and current affairs programs come from studios at Martin Place. In 2000 David Leckie became the head of its television operations in time for coverage of the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney. The Olympic Opening ceremony was the highest rated television program in the country. It had 6.5 million viewers. Seven's popularity continued to grow and in 2008 they signed with 'Foxtel,' allowing Seven's signal to be transmitted through 'Foxtel's' cable and satellite services. MORE
