Revver is an entertainment website that tracks uploaded videos throughout the internet and pays royalties based on views. In 2004, founders Steven Starr, Ian Clarke, and Oliver Luckett wanted to start up a website that could legitimately track and compensate the users that create content, and in 2005, Revver was born. The site attaches ads to videos themselves, and via software that tracks plays, the creators are paid based on how many times the clip was watched. Revver is the first website to both attach money to videos that are embedded on other websites, and the first to share that revenue with the creators. Like most video websites, the content ranges from professional productions to amateur videos, but it is all uploaded by the users themselves, and Revver has a unique software that allows websites to customize the look of the webpage based on the short movie clips. They have struck deals with Verizon and other third party affiliates, and in 2008 were purchased by LiveUniverse. Being user-friendly lends itself to the creation of a good number of regular programs of all types, and if word catches on, expect Revver to be a major player in the battle for king of web media.
