Planet Verge debuted as a print zine in 2002 (Sugarcult graced the cover) and quickly built up a stellar reputation among the indie music community. Vice President of Promotions at Virgin Records, Steven Leeds said "I think it's great to see people who really support music. It's really, really important because there's always a Rolling Stone and a Spin and a Circus and those metal magazines from the UK. But what you guys do is write about bands that are not on the radar to most folks yet. You provide a launching pad at a very crucial point." In 2003, Drive-Thru Records choose Planet Verge to make its first fanzine, which was distributed at that year's Van's Warped Tour. The staff of Planet Verge had the honor of interviewing the label's entire roster and designing the publication. Label co-founder, Richard Reines told PV "Thank you very much for your support of our bands and label. We don't always get that and we really appreciate it!" By that fall, Planet Verge entered the retail world and hit newsstands of independent music stores, as well as select locations of Barnes and Noble and Tower Records. Planet Verge hit the mainstream in 2005 when Teen People magazine (RIP) ran a full-page feature of PV-founder, Joelle, in its Hot Summer Music Issue. Soon after, Planet Verge was nominated for three Asbury Park Music Awards-Top Journalist in Support of Live Music (Joelle), Top News Publication in Support of Live Music and Top Music Web Site in Support of Live Music. At the ceremony, PV staffers were also presenters. The recognition continued when PV's Jordana was featured on The Style Network's THE LOOK FOR LESS. The show's stylists dressed Jordana for her PV interview with Butch Walker, who also appeared on the episode.There was no stopping PV as the publication jumped into the digital world the summer of '06 by teaming up with CinemaElectric to create ON THE VERGE, weekly indie music news reports for the company's Portable Vinyl show. Hosted by PV staffer and Los Angeles-based red carpet reporter, Shira Lazar, each episode of ON THE VERGE was available for download to mobile phones (VCAST) and archived on You Tube. Now completely digital, PV champions the indie music scene through a constantly updated blog and by producing You Tube Clips. It earned them the attention of Ambush TV, which approached PV about doing a show on the new Web-TV network. Filming began shortly after. MORE
