Nike is one of the largest publicly traded sportswear equipment supplier in the world. Based out of its headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, the company was founded by former track runner Philip Knight. After Knight graduated college he took a trip to overseas in which he purchased 200 pairs of sneakers for about $500. Bringing them back to the United States he teamed up with Bill Bowerman of Blue Ribbon Sports. It was a current employee. Jeff Johnson, that came up with a name for the new sports shoe company Ð Nike. But the new comfortable, air filled tennis shoe still needed a logo. They recruited University Student, Caroline Davidson, to think up some catchy designs. In 1971, she presented Nike with the ÒSwoosh.Ó From then on, Nike made a swift entry into households all across America. The success of their shoes catapulted them into manufacturing all kinds of sporting equipment. Today, Nike dominates much of the sports market. MORE
