NHK Educational TV is one of four television channels operated by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), Japan's viewer-supported public broadcasting service. Formed in 1959, the channel focuses on content-rich educational and cultural programming. Many of NHK Educational's programs are designed for primary-school children, and are shown in about 85% of Japanese classrooms throughout the country. Other programs are directed to an adult or general audience and offer cultural content including art, languages, hobbies, health and cooking. One of the channel's popular offerings is "Discover Science", a program intended for all ages that aims to educate as well as entertain through large-scale scientific experiments. MORE
