New Line Cinema is an American based major film production studio that is located in Los Angeles, California and was founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne and was primarily a film distribution company. In 1996, New Line Cinema became a subsidiary of Time Warner and then merged with one of the large, major studios, Warner Bros., in 2008. New Line Cinema got its start as a distributor and supplier of foreign and art house films for college campuses in the United States. The company saw success after their distribution of the 1936 anti-cannabis film 'Reefer Madness' and became a cult classic on American college campuses in the early 1970's.
