National Film Board of Canada
May 2, 2009 marks the 70th anniversary of the National Film Board of Canada. Since 1939, the NFB has reflected the major developments in cinema over the years - both technical and creative. NFB films are a true testament to a filmmaker's desire to transmit images and words in a meaningful and passionate way. Seven decades worth of achievements allow us to relive moments that have made the NFB a national and international benchmark for all things cinematic and to revisit the work of extraordinary Canadian filmmakers and craftspeople. The history of the NFB runs parallel to the history of our country, in all its richness and diversity. The NFB remains at the heart of a constantly evolving world. With a collection of 13,000 productions, it has earned 5,000 awards, including 12 Oscars© and 90 Genies. NFB documentaries have influenced major social issues, and NFB feature films and animation have influenced the works of filmmakers around the world. If the past is any indication of the future, the NFB will continue to be a leader, through innovative digital content and new distribution platforms as it tells the stories that continue to inspire us.
