Miramax Films is an American based film production company that was founded by Hollywood heavyweights Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 1979 and is considered to be an art house, independent film production company. The company was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1993 after fourteen years of being privately held by the Weinstein's. Even as a division of Disney, the Weinstein's operated Miramax Films with more creativity and financial independence than any other division until they left in 2005 and founded their new company The Weinstein Company. Miramax Films was founded on the premise of distributing independent films that were marked as commercially unfeasible and unsalable by the major motion picture studios. Miramax Films saw great breakthrough success in the 1980's and 1990's with 'Scandal', 'Sex, Lies and Videotape', 'The Crying Game', 'Clerks', 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Shakespeare in Love'. MORE
