Mainichi Broadcasting System began its life as the first commercial radio station in Japan, under the name New Japan Broadcasting Company. In 1959, it began television broadcasts, a year after changing its name to Mainichi Broadcasting System. Since then, it has produced award-winning dramas and documentaries, including earning a number of International Emmy awards. It produces a lot of original programming in Japanese. Headquartered in Osaka, the station serves the Kansai region of Japan. It also owns JNN (Japan Network News). One notable achievement for Mainichi Broadcasting System was being part of the first US-Japan satellite transmission, allowing their New York correspondent to report on the Kennedy assassination in real time.
