KQED is a Public Broadcasting Service member-station based in San Francisco. Independently operating since 1954, their mission is to provide consistently high quality public media that informs, educates, entertains, and engages from a Northern California perspective. They provide cultural and educational programming that encourages viewers to think, feel, and explore new ideas. With shows such as Nova and Frontline, KQED provides news and analysis of current topics. They explore history, science, and the arts with informative programs and documentaries. They take you across the nation with Antiques Roadshow and Roadtrip Nation. Original programming covers local community concerns and what's new in Northern California. The channel produced the noteworthy 90's miniseries Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin, and shows highlighting bay area history.
