Gatorade is a non-carbonated sports drink specifically designed to replenish fluids, carbohydrates, and electrolytes of athletes or persons during physical activity. Today the company is distributed by the Quaker Oats Company and owned by PepsiCo. However, Gatorade has a somewhat romantic back-story. The tasty, hydrating mixture was developed in 1965 by the doctor and head coach of the University of Florida's football team, the Gators. Ray Graves (the head coach) was frustrated with his players performance in the off season and asked the team doctor for help. The doctor then handed over the request to University medical researcher, Robert Cade. He came up with a lemon flavorful drink that was high in sugar, potassium, and phosphates. It worked.
