Free Range Studios is a private, socially driven design firm that was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1999 by Jonah Sachs and Louis Fox who grew up together collaborating on amateur films and video projects. Today, Free Range Studios currently has offices in Washington, D.C. and Berkeley, California. When the pair opened their firm, they decided to work exclusively with non-profits who promote social change. Free Range Studios saw success after working on national campaigns such as Earthjustice, SEIU and Amnesty International after only six months of operations. Free Range Studios project with Earthjustice in 2000 was a forty-second cartoon about mountain top removal in West Virginal. Since viral activism, at the time, was new and a novelty, the video quickly gained the attention of the general public and the social activism community.
