Encore is a premium cable television network that focuses on playing old and new movies 24 hours a day. A counterpart of Starz (another premium cable movie channel), Encore was first launched in 1991 and has since gathered almost double the subscribers as its counterpart despite the fact that they are usually sold together as an entertainment super package. The channel focused more on hit movies of today and even showed the most popular films throughout history. It wasn't until 1994 that Encore launched its new format, which consisted of individualized themed channels.
