Donna Karen, born in 1948, comes from humble beginnings in Queens, New York. Her father a tailor and mother a model, Karen was quickly introduced to the world of clothing. By age 14 she was working as a clothing sales person on Long Island. After she attended design college she landed a head of design job for Anne Klein which in 1985 is where she launched her official Donna Karen New York clothing line.
