Crackle is a web-based entertainment company that offers premium movies, television shows and internet programming. Formally named Grouper, and owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Crackle was originally created to deliver videos and other media with an application allowing users to share via a peer-to-peer format. Once being taken over by Sony, the method of delivery was changed, and users could then watch videos directly from them. Having a large company such as Sony in charge has its advantages, as Crackle is able to deliver top notch movie and television realeases, such as Spiderman 2, Ghostbusters, and Breaking Bad. The videos are only available for a short time, in accordance with the rights window for each particular form of media. Their web originals have similar release restrictions but are created exclusively for the website. Though not as widely known as Sony's mainstream releases, shows like The Bannen Way and Angel of Death have garnered much acclaim and critical success. Crackle really ups the ante with the availability of videos and media for other formats like the Playstation Portable (PSP) and offers its videos on sites such as YouTube, Hulu, AOL, and MySpace, by way of a web syndication network. The only downside is that Crackle's high level content is available only in the regions of USA, UK, Canada, and Australia.
