Channel 101 is a non-profit short film festival in Los Angeles. Occuring monthly, the screening features short five-minute films in the form of a TV pilot. A live audience rates each one to determine whether a pilot will continue as a series for the next screening. Similar to the way TV programs are rated and managed, Channel 101 is living, untelevised TV network. It is Òa chance to sit in the worn-out chair of the fat network exec, drunk on the blood of lowly artists whose right to exist is given in exchange for their ability to nourishÉ You run the network. You pick the programming.Ó All pilots are posted on the Channel 101 website, including the failures, the cancellations, and the prime time successes. The longest running series at 13 episodes, ÒClassroomÓ is a parody of after-school specials. Other series include ÒComputermanÓ featuring Jack Black as a PC/human hybrid, ÒCall of CobraÓ featuring Drew Carey, and ÒPlanet UnicornÓ featuring three unicorns created by a gay 8-year old boy named Shannon. Many of the pilots have starred notable comedians (Sarah Silverman, Mike Henry of ÒFamily GuyÓ), and have spawned many a youtube sensation. MORE
