Canwest Global Communications Corporation was the largest media company in Canada. It operated under the corporate brand Canwest. It was based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had its head offices at Canwest Place. It had assets in radio, television broadcasting and publishing in several other countries as well as Canada. Canwest went into creditor bankruptcy protection in 2009 and then sold the company's assets. Its newspaper division was sold to a creditor group led by the National Post's CEO Paul Godfrey through the new company Postmedia Network.
