Founder Brandon Gray, a movie analyst himself, started the online film news source in 1999, and since then it has grown to be the #1 worldwide box office destination, with average monthly visitors numbering over 2 million every month. Gray's, and the website's major selling point is a unique, algorithmic utility that provides the most comprehensive tracking for box office return and sales possible. The interactive site also hosts online games and forums, a virtual grab bag for the growing legion of box office junkies. With viewership reaching such high levels, Box Office Mojo was acquired by Amazon.com in July of 2008 via its subsidiary the Internet Movie Database, but the nuts and bolts of the revolutionary website remained the same.
