The American Folk Art Museum is a world-renown cultural institution primarily displaying American folk art as well as other self-taught artists from around the world. Its current location is in Midtown Manhatthan in New York City, New York. The museum is committed to displaying work from different aspects of American folk culture, including African-American and Latino artists and works of art. The Contemporary Center, housed within the American Folk Art Museum, is devoted to the work of art from the 20th and 21st century. The museum has recently focused its attention to early American works, adding over 400 pieces of work from the collection of Ralph O. Esmerian that include Pennsylvania German material, Shaker gift drawings, needlework samplers, and paintings by artists such as Edward Hicks and Sheldon Peck. MORE
