Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson is a famous American country singer songwriter, as well as an actor, poet, activist and author. He was born on April 30th, 1933. He was interested in music from a very young age, studying it from mail order programs and writing his very first song at only 7 years old. At 9 years old he joined his first band. In High School he formed the band 'The Bohemian Fiddlers,' joined the National FFA, worked as a DH in Texas radio stations, and sang in numerous Honky Tonk bars. He later moved to Vancouver, Washington where he wrote his early songs 'Lumberjack' and 'Family Bible.' by 1960 he had signed a publishing contract with Pamper music and he joined Ray Price's band, playing the bass. It was at this time that he wrote numerous songs that became country standards recorded by many prominent artists. These songs included 'Hello Walls, Pretty Paper,' 'Funny how Time Slips Away,' and 'Crazy.' These early successes led to Nelson signing with RCA Victor and joining the Grand Ole Opry in 1965. His career continued, and still does today, making him a true legend of the country music world. MORE
