Pink Floyd was a British rock band that became one of the most popular and critically acclaimed rock groups of all time. They have sold over 200 million albums world wide. They are known for their deeply philosophical lyrics, experimental sound, unique album art, and extremely elaborate live concerts. The band initially was comprised of Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Syd Barret and was founded in 1965. Their first album was 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' which had a heavily psychedelic and far out sound. Syd Barrett was the band's original leader but experimented too heavily with psychedelic drugs and had to leave the band as he quite literally lost his mind. David Gilmour took over for Barrett and Roger Waters became the band's conceptual leader and lyricist.
