Paul McCartney is the most commercially successful songwriter in the history of popular music from his time in The Beatles alongside John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Lennon and McCartney were one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships of all time. Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool England in 1942. He met Lennon when he was 15 and they began collaborating on songs. Their early band the Quarrymen gradually grew into what became the Beatles. BBC News Online named McCartney the greatest composer of the millennium and his song 'Yesterday' is the most covered song in the history of all recorded music, with over 2,200 other artists having done it.
