Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond, born Neil Leslie Diamond, is a singer-songwriter born on January 24, 1941 in New York, New York. Originally part of a duo, Diamond struck out on his own in 1962, signing a recording contract with Columbia Records. His early success was more as a songwriter than as a performer. It wasn't until 1966 that he recorded his first hit single, "Solitary Man." That would be followed shortly thereafter by "Cherry, Cherry", "Thank the Lord for the Night Time" and "Kentucky Woman." Diamond would enjoy his greatest success in the 1970s, releasing the massive hits "Sweet Caroline", "Song Sung Blue", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", "Red, Red Wine", and "Forever in Blue Jeans." He briefly pursued an acting career in the 1980s with the film The Jazz Singer, but quickly returned to performing when the film flopped. It did produce the hit songs, "Love on the Rocks", "Hello Again" and "America." He would enjoy his last commercial hit in 1982 with "Heartlight."
