John Lennon

John Lennon became famous throughout the world as one of the musicians and singer songwriters of 'The Beatles,' one of the greatest and most influential musical groups of the 20th century. He was born in 1940 in Liverpool. He became involved in music in his teens and his first band, 'The Quarrymen,' evolved into the Beatles in 1960. Along with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, 'The Beatles' grew into the most critically lauded and commercially successful acts in the history of popular music. As the Beatles ended by the end of the 60s Lennon went on, starting a successful solo career making such albums as 'Imagine,' and 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.' He moved to New York City where he lived with Yoko Ono. He was very outspoken against the Vietnam War to the point that Richard Nixon's administration attempted to deport him from the United States. In 1980 Lennon was shot and killed by the mentally unstable Mark David Chapman. MORE
