Gorillaz

MTV Music showcases the music of the Gorillaz. Gorillaz is the musical brainchild of musician Damon Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. The band, formed in 1998, is actually a "virtual band" made up of four animated cartoon characters: 2D (lead vocalist, keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboard, and occasional vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). The universe that the Gorillaz occupy is described through inventive music videos and a one-of-a-kind live performance, as well as other forms of media. Albarn is the only consistent member of the band, utilizing the help of other musicians for his live performances and recorded songs. The music is also a melange of different styles and sounds which makes sense given the shifting cast of musicians. The Gorillaz have been described as having a sound influenced by hip hop, rock, dub, electronic and pop music.
