You, the Living is a comedy and musical about nothing. Filmmaker Roy Andersson directs the drama by taking a look at a short period in the lives of fifty people, to see where they fit into a complex world. The film opens with voiceover explaining the director's take on the meaning of life, which turns into a jazz song and sets at a funeral. A tuba player (Bjorn Englund) ironically plays at his abusive boss memorial service. With the entire room in mourning, people wonder why the musician is smiling. Next up is Mia (Elisabeth Helander), an overweight woman who hates herself.
