The X-Files is the first feature film created based on the hit Fox television series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Mulder and Scully, the two investigators assigned to solve supernatural and paranormal mysteries. The film begins following the season five finale of the TV series, an episode called “The End.” Cigarette Smoking Man has burned the X-Files office. Agents Mulder and Scully have been reassigned to other areas, and the film opens with them dealing with a bomb threat in Dallas, Texas. Despite their best efforts, the bomb goes off, killing four people. Mulder and Scully are chastised for allowing the deaths to happen.
