Winning of the West

Winning of the West is a 1953 western film centered around a cop who finds himself between a rock and a hard place. The film was written by Norman S. Hall and directed by George Archainbaud (Lassie, The Gene Autry Show). Musically gifted wild west ranger Gene (Gene Autry) just wants to do good, but recent circumstances make that quite impossible for this well-intended gentleman. His brother Jack (Richard Crane), a delinquent nomad, is on the verge of killing a local newspaper publisher. Unfortunately, Gene is unsuccessful in dissuading his brother from committing such a villainous crime. As a consequence, he is forced to turn in his badge, thereby relinquishing his authority as town ranger. In an effort to bring justice to all, he pursues the gang of outlaws who influenced Jack to commit murder. But things get increasingly difficult when the victim's daughter, a woman named Ann (Gail Davis) requests the authorities seize Gene and give him a proper sentence. Is there anything he is even blameworthy of? Winning of the West was one of Autry's last efforts. Be sure to catch this one of a kind western which includes more action, humor and music than most.
