Whip It is a comedic film directed by Drew Barrymore that centers on Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page), an oddball small-town girl living in Bodeen, Texas who has no idea what to do with her life outside of getting out of her town. Sharing her dream is her best friend Pash (Alia Shawkat), though Pash plans on college as her escape. Bliss spends her days outside of school working and taking part in the pageants her former beauty queen mother Brooke (Marcia Gay Harden) pushes her into. That is, until she and Pash discover the world of roller derby.
