What Doesn't Kill You is a 2008 crime drama based on director Brian Goodman's life. Set in South Boston, the film follows the lives two friends, Brian (Mark Ruffalo) and Paulie (Ethan Hawke). Growing up, Brian and Paulie are petty criminals. As they grow up on the tough streets of South Boston, their crimes grow into more serious offenses. Eventually, the two come to the attention of mob crime boss Pat Kelly (Brian Goodman), who takes them under his wing. While Brian begins to lose himself in a fog of alcohol, drugs and criminal adventures, Paulie is planning one last score to turn their lives around.
