Valkyrie is a 2008 historical film about the 20 July plot carried out by German officers during World War II in an attempt to overthrow Hitler's regime and take control of the country. Tom Cruise plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a German patriot who opposes the Nazi movement. After being removed from combat following a severe injury, von Stauffenberg is approached by several other German high-ups who want to kill Hitler and remove the Nazis from power. Von Stauffenberg devises a plan to use a national emergency measure currently in place called Operation Valkyrie to mobilize Germany's reserve forces to overwhelm the SS after Hitler's assassination.
