Tom Jones

Tom Jones is a 1963 film adaptation of Henry Fielding's novel "The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling". Directed by Tony Richardson, the film tells the story of Tom Jones (Albert Finney) a foundling who is raised by a stern but caring squire named Allworthy (George Devine). Tom is a popular and kind young man who is in love with Sophie Western (Susannah York), a woman of high breeding. Sophie returns Tom's feelings, but is forbidden to marry a bastard of uncertain parentage. When Sophie is promised in marriage to an unpleasant man named Blifil (David Warner), Tom leaves home to seek his fortune. Pursued by a desperate Sophie who has run away from her villainous fiance, Tom embarks on a series of adventures that include a daring sword fight, a bold rescue, a false accusation and a seductive meal with an attractive lady.
