To Die For

To Die For, directed by Gus Van Sant, is a 1995 crime comedy based on the Joyce Maynard novel of the same name. In the film, Suzanne Store Maretto (Nicole Kidman) is a hardworking woman who dreams of becoming a television news anchor. In trying to keep herself comfortable while she works her way up to where she wants to be, she marries Larry Maretto (Matt Dillion), a man she doesn't really love. Just when her career begins to blossom, Larry begins to pressure Suzanne to start a family. This plan will not work for Suzanne, but she can't live the life she wants without his money. With this in mind, Suzanne decides she must kill Larry. Unable to commit the murder herself, Suzanne turns to three teenagers, Jimmy Emmett (Joaquin Phoenix), Russell (Casey Affleck) and Lydia (Allison Folland) to commit the murder.
